Madonna also provided background vocals on the track. A promotional video to accompany the single was directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. The synth-pop song was featured in Billboard magazine's "New and Noteworthy" single list, receiving comparison to songs by the Bee Gees. It attained Silver certification in France and the United Kingdom, and a remix of the track became a dance hit in the United States. Nick Kamen attained popularity in when his modelling career gave him the chance to star in Levi's television commercial.

It showed him coming into a launderette to wash his jeans, wearing only white boxer shorts. It also made Kamen a household name and a sex symbol. Kamen later decided to delve into music, and released his eponymous debut album in However, since she was busy shooting for her film, Who's That Girl then titled Slammer , she chose to write and compose one song.

The Latin Rascals handled the editing of the track, which was engineered by Steve Peck. Another photographer Bob Merlis shot the picture listed in the back cover, which is a black-and-white image of Madonna and Kamen in a recording studio.

The reviewer added that the song was musically "light synth-pop " and Kamen's vocals were reminiscent of the Bee Gees. After four weeks, the song reached a peak of number five on the chart, staying within the top for a total of 13 weeks. Credits adapted from the inch maxi single liner notes. It's really very good, dreamy and swinging and has a whole different vibe than the rest of them. All the songs are good, except for execrable "skip to the bip" and non-musical "enzo", too bad about those two.

I am slowly collecting this series and so far this is my favorite. It has a good selection of groovy tunes and seems to have more variety than the others do. It has not the magic of the others albums.. Anything Hotel Costes is wonderfully easy on the ears, sensual yet a bit nigh eve. All the best sounds that Stephane Pompougnc can lay down, Cheers cool. One person found this helpful. This is one of the worst Costes Albums in the entire 11 disc collection.

I have all of them, and I pretty much love them all, although some stand out more than others. OK, the cover female art is cool as always It feels to me like Stephane had too many cooks in the musical kitchen, as the tunes are generally neither great chill nor as groovy as many previous superlative efforts. The mood just isn't there. Maybe Stephane has been out partying on the DJ circuit too much, but this has to stand out as by far the worst effort of the entire Hotel Costes project.

Yee Tony Leung Chiu-Wai. JUMBO was actually the name given to singer Alvaro Fella, but was then given as the entire band's name after their first album. It's quite a varied album, so accusing this album of being homogenized is something no one would be doing. Lots of instruments are used as well guitar, drums, bass, flute, synthesizers, Mellotron, Hammond organ, reed organ.

The whole sounds too much adventurous, avant-garde at times.

Three stars seven out of ten. Jumbo made two acclaimed records, this is the second of them. Jumbo has an eclectic mix of styles, with most noteworthy heavy psych, folk, symphonic, space and world-music. The music sometimes evokes the fanatic feel for which a band like VdGG is remembered, whilst the music is way more fragmentary and unfocused.

Jumbo has lots of great ideas and most work quite good, but lacks the extended song-writing skills to create a very meaningful experience though knowing the Italian language might have helped here.

Having that said there's quite a lot to enjoy here! Almost every moment of the album has some prove of an inventive mindset and the band thrives in its quieter experiments. During bombastic movements the recording isn't up to the challenge, an element of RPI music the real lovers must learn to live with. I sometimes find myself trying to listen to 'what could have been'. Another strong, but semi-professional, eclectic Italian prog record that will be liked by most of its fans - though one shouldn't expect subtle vocals.

Three and halve stars. Stylistically Jumbo remained along the lines of ''DNA'', playing complex Heavy Progressive Rock with major Folk passages and occasional symphonic vibes. In fact the opening ''Specchio'' is among the most complete tracks of the italian scene, featuring the raw voice of Fella, excellent flute work, complicated guitar parts and a fair amount of Hammong organ waves.

The rest of the album doesn't exactly reaches this high level of inspiration, but it is decent to say the least.

It follows a weird mix of Classic Italian Prog mixed with extended acoustic parts and even Avant-Garde passages, like on the haunting and slow piece ''Gil'', containing percussion, obscure keyboard parts, acoustic mannerisms and Fella's frightening voice. While these moves are not along the lines of the average prog listener, there is still strong proggy doses to be left with nice guitar work, organs and flutes as the main components.

The last single of the band came in and the next appearance of Jumbo came in with the unsuccesful LP ''Violini d'autunno''.

Daniele Bianchini was the main man behind Jumbo's couple of brief reunions and two more works saw the light in more recent years, the ''Live'' and the CD '' Passing By'', far from the band's early style. While not being that consistent as the ''DNA'' album, it contains some great pieces of prog music next to more experimental tracks of less interest.

Overall, strongly recommended Excellent album. The blues reflection on this album tends to be more jazzy blues than anything. First of all, I love these vocals, second, there's a long time I don't listen something so crazy at the same time scare full as this madness, since I had 18 listened pink Floyd and smoked a fag, I really got surprise as I didn't get for so long.

This record was banned from the Italian radios You must be a forum member to post a review, please register here if you are not. Copyright Prog Archives, All rights reserved. Please consider supporting us by disabling your ad blocker. I liked "Gil" the most, probably because it seemed edgy.

I rarely listened to it. Then, in the early 90's, a guy at a record convention offered to trade a CD of the album for my LP in fact, we did this with several Italian Prog albums; I had no idea at that time that this stuff was available on CD, so I was excited, and he wanted the LP's because he loves vinyl, and knew they were worth a lot of money.

I listened to the CD "with new ears". Every once in awhile I'll find that an album I've had for many years is much better than I'd realized. Almost everything works here, and works well. It doesn't sound derivative, like so much Italian Prog. Someday I"ll have to check out their earlier albums. As in their preceding release "DNA", this album is pretty much based upon a mixture of folkish sensitiveness and blues-rock fiery approach, with an amalgam of extended jamming and multicolored compositions providing the progressive essence to the band's musical style.

The overall sound is not as rough as in "DNA", but nevertheless, the band sounds stronger, somewhat heavier. What happens here is that the augmented energy has been cleverly recycled through an air of sophistication brought by a more diverse instrumentation: mellotron and synths Franco Battiato guests on VCS 3 in some numbers are added in the mix, together with the sixtro - a Renaissance string instrument -, and some extra percussion.

All four of them are full of mood shifts, links between diverse motifs, and that peculiar emotional drive common to many Italian bands - such as Delirium, RRR, Osanna, De De Lind -.

The rendition is much identical to the original versions, except for ''Minstrel in the Gallery'' that could have been more punchy.

It grooves enough though. Overall it's decent, but there are too much passages that hurt. They sometimes try too hard and not in appropriate places to differ from the originals, and the vocals are way too mild in places. Good review, bro. I agree with Batareziz' comment about that long paragraph that breaks the flow of your review.

Even I had some doubts about that paragraph. But as this is a very special work with so many artists who chose so many different songs in the repertoire of Tull, I thought that it would be better mention all those things because some people may be interested on it. By the other hand, I think very few have a copy of the CD and thus, don't have access to the album's technical data sheet. It's also interesting to note that all the versions on the album have a detailed explanation made by one of the artists that participated on each song, explaining how they meet Tull and why they chose that track.

Maybe my fault was not to put that paragraph in the beginning or in the end of the review. Anyway, the readers can jump over that paragraph, if they whant. Thanks for your comment and participation, dude. As I mentioned on my review, with the few exceptions mentioned by me, the tribute could be much better than it was.

Initially i've rated it with a 3. Still, those exceptions made me rated it with 3. But by definition, an original is almost always better than a copy. With the listenings you can enjoy it a bit much, but overall is somehow a deception work.

With so great artists involved and with so great tracks they should have done a much better work. Several of the cuts have different arrangements. The disc starts off with an instrumental track written specifically for this tribute called "A Tull Tale", featuring Stan Johnson on flute. Containing pieces of "Bouree" and other Tull classics, it serves as an introduction to Magellan's excellent cover of "Aqualung".

This one is interesting, to say the least. The 's saw Tull become more keyboard-oriented and hi-tech in its approach. And in Ian Anderson showed incredible musical maturity with his classically-inspired, new age-influenced "Divinities". Tull also contributed a great deal to making the modern concert business what it is today. They were the first group to carry it's own PA system from city to city and make those costs part of the production expenses.

They were the first group to carry multi-level staging on the road with them making them memorable for putting on an extravagant live show. Ian Anderson has a style and a vision which he has been able to parlay into a huge army of dedicated fans that has remained loyal for decades.

But with all the image, marketing and promotional aspects of the Tull story, one factor should not be dismissed: the songs were great. Energetic Happy Hypnotic. Romantic Sad Sentimental. Sexy Trippy All Moods. Drinking Hanging Out In Love. Introspection Late Night Partying. And Keith Emerson again with the original Tull trio doesn't take Living In The Past far from it's original arrangement until he jazzes it up with a nice solo.

To sum it up, it's nice to hear different artists' takes on these songs, but I wouldn't call it essential.

Positively 4th Street - Bob Dylan - Genuine Live 1966

On July 22, , the St. Johnny Rivers recorded the song, using it as the closing track on his Realization album in In , the Byrds included a live version of the song, recorded at the Felt Forum , on their Untitled album. Other musicians and bands that have covered the song, include Lucinda Williams , on the live compilation album In Their Own Words, Vol. Larry Norman released a version of "Positively 4th Street" with slightly altered lyrics on the album Rock, Scissors et Papier [37] and Bryan Ferry has covered the song on his album, Dylanesque.

The vitriolic Dylan-Ochs arguments and subsequent falling-out during '64 and '65 were legend and were punctuated! Only Dylan knows exactly what criticism Ochs offered about the lyrics of the song -- lyrics that HAD to hit home to Ochs -- but whatever Phil said so angered Bob that he shoved his former friend from the limo while shouting at him: "You're not a folksinger -- you're a journalist!

It's long been common knowledge that even when they were at each others' throats, Ochs continued to admire Dylan's works. It's also been written that Dylan's callous remarks haunted Ochs for the rest of his life. This is most likely true, given the often sensitive nature of musicians and other artists. It should also be noted that Ochs began many of the arguments to which Bob responded.

Bob, too, is a sensitive artist, despite what is often misperceived as cockiness, indifference, even boredom. What wasn't well known until after Ochs' suicide in was that for years the activist-songwriter had been a severe alcoholic and prescription drug abuser, all while also suffering from bipolarism and clinical depression.

Ddespite the acrimony between the two troubadors, Dylan contended with Phil in much the same way as he had done with his notorious harasser and trash-mongerer, AJ Lieberman, from whom he continued to take late-night phone calls long after their highly publicized verbal and physical altercations. While Phil and Bob maintained their strained on-again, off-again relationship, Ochs continued to admire Bob's works, and Bob condoned more than his share of "inappropriate conduct" from Phil.

It's interesting that over the past years there's been remarkable new interest and questioning of who it was that Dylan's lyrics targeted in Positively 4th Street. More proof that Bob's works continue to transcend the generations. Prior to , most longtime Dylan followers took it for granted -- albeit, silently -- that Bobby wrote the song with no one other than Phil Ochs in mind. The speculation began anew -- and among a new generation of Dylan fans -- with the recent release of the film "Factory Girl," based on the life of Edie Sedgwick, a Warhol's dilettante who'd had a minor affair with Dylan much briefer and significantly more minor than portrayed in the film.

For years after their famous feud, Dylan continued to befriend and offer assistance to Ochs, whose career was struggling during the '70s. So, by now you know my thoughts as to who Bob was thinking when he wrote the harsh lyrics to Positively 4th Street.

It was Possitively Phil Ochs. I'm sure it was a fake media-generated feud, like tons of other fake feuds. I've heard Phil speak of Dylan with reverence with not an ounce of sarcasm in his voice. I think the song is just a general calling out of the phonies of the world.

General Comment I just want to say that I love the poetic structure of the lyrics, where nothing rhymes in a single verse, but the second and fourth lines of a pair of two verses rhyme.

I'm not sure if "verses" is the accurate term to describe each group of four lines, but hopefully you know what I mean. Great call, I really like that, too. Maybe they're called stanzas.
